Wakamaru

Was located in the International Pavilion Grand Hall, at the Indiana State Fair this year and was a hit with the kids. They had a great time experiencing Japanese customs and traditions.

The Japan-America Society of Indiana (JASI) partnered with the Indiana State Fair providing a look into Japan’s culture.

The kids had an opportunity to learn some Japanese and talk to the robot Wakamaru, a communications robot, by industrial designer Mr. Toshiyuki Kita. Wakamaru is a robot that was designed to live with people.

MJ was so upset that she didn’t get to take a walk with Wakamaru like MC did.

Then when MC was done they decided to take Wakamaru up on stage for a demonstration to the crowd and asked for some kids to volunteer.

She raised her hand, jumped up and down and got her turn. She is not shy.

Went right on stage and spoke the Japanese words to say “take a walk” to the robot Wakamaru, and it understood her.

She was so cute and so proud to walk around in a circle on stage.

Paro – Therapeutic Robot

Was other great robot on exibit. The kids love how it responded to them.

Paro is therapeutic robot made as a baby harp seal.

Covered in pure white synthetic fur and built-in intelligence to provide psychological, physiological, and social effects  with people.

The kids had a great time at the Bridges to Japan exhibit.

We were quite the celebrity that day. Several people asked and commented on our bright orange shirts.

We decide to wear them to support our 4-H Dog club “Canine Crusaders” and because with all the kids it was good to stand out so we didn’t loose anyone.
