My children, starting with my 16 year son (weird), wearing these unusual shaped colored bracelets.
On his arm they don’t look like anything until he took one off and showed me it was a giraffe, a star, a heart his girlfriend gave him (how sweet). Each day goes by and he gets more and of course now that I’m aware and clued into this fad I see them on everyone’s wrists. Some adults too.
JEM, MC, JM, DC and SB have started collecting them too.
I like these Silly Bandz, brought back memories, and even tried to wear one or two but they felt tickle y and was annoying.
I was an 80’s girl and we had jelly bracelets. I loved those. To be a kid again. Well having kids is fun too. I admit it, I enjoy playing toys with them and seeing their silly fads.
This Silly Bandz fad is fun. My kids are homeschooled so I’m not dealing with the school bans, trading fights, or any of those crazy issues.
We get together for lunch at the elementary school everyday during the summer and just the other day it was great watching my kids and their friends sitting in a circle in the shade trading their Silly Bandz.
They were so excited to see each others different animals, shapes, colors and whether they glow in the dark. Talking about who gave them the different bandz and how long they had them or which one was their first.
I can see how distracting it would have been in public schools. And there’s one more reason I love homeschooling my children. Sure when they grow up they may have to deal with social rules in say the work place, but for now they get to be kids, just have fun, and not deal with ” The Man”. Only, The Mom, who remembers being a kid, loved her fads, toys, and like totally understands.
Here is a video from Current TV on Youtube.
Here are some news sites and blogs I found about where the Silly Bandz craze started and who thought of it.
And of course if you haven’t got your collection starter yet you could start here:
