MJ’s puppet school had a spelling bee. We used a fun spelling game called Leap Frog My First Spelling Bee Game Tin and she sat all the puppets in their chairs to wait their turn to spell a word. Then I would give the word and she would write it down on her Crayola Dry-Erase Activity Center Zany Play Edition and then say the word out loud. [Read more…]
What is a lapbook? Great question!
We are studying space/Astronomy for science this year and have been working on our lapbooks. I decided to add another art project to mix it up a bit and well this one turned into a very fun but very messy project.
This is her second lapbook adventure. The first one was a human body lapbook. She did great on it but got a little to in depth and was a long process. This time she is narrowing her topic and keeping it simple. I was worried she wasn’t going to like the lapbooking method with all the work involved but if we keep it simple it can be a great way to show what she learned.

JEM started reading at 4 and a half and was much easier to teach than MJ because she just listened to everything I told her. MJ has to do everything her way and loves to argue. I tried starting the reading process at 3 then 4 and now she is 4 1/2 and is showing more interest. I know that at 3 and even early 4 might be too young, but wanted to introduce it just in case, like I did with JEM. And this is after I know they have the basics, like knowing all the letters, vowels, and enjoy being read to.
